From Max in the Caves to Will the Sorcerer — Stranger Things Review

A Review Blog the Internet Is Exploding Over — With Fun Facts, Trivia & All the Drama You Were NOT Ready For

If you thought Stranger Things Season 5 was just another nostalgia ride, think again. “The Fall of 1987” is basically Hawkins saying:
“Welcome back babes… now suffer.”

Rifts are open. Vecna has vanished. Eleven is being hunted by the government (again). Hawkins is under military quarantine. And our OG party — older, traumatised and armed with DnD logic — is ready for one last showdown.

But the real plot twist?
The Internet is more divided than the Upside Down itself.

Let’s dive in.
Grab your Eggos. Hold your walkie-talkie tight.
This is gonna get wild.

THE VIBE CHECK: Is It Brilliant or Cringe?

After finishing the first four episodes, fans online are spiralling into two groups:

SIDE A: “I’ve matured… or the show has??”

  • The time jump threw people harder than Vecna yeeting Max in S4.
  • Some scenes feel too on-the-nose, especially the gauntlet scene with Eleven (second-hand embarrassment = MAXIMUM).
  • Robin’s quirky charm? A bit overplayed for some viewers.
  • Dustin’s grief arc? Beautiful. Painful. Predicting another Eddie-style sacrifice moment? Probably.
  • Will & Robin gay-bestie bonding = adorable but sometimes cringe-coded.
  • Max living in the caves… but keeping a rogue hair-tie?? Internet: “Girl priorities.”
  • Problem-solving feels too whimsical, almost like a child wrote the answers on a Trapper Keeper in 1987.

SIDE B: “Are you all serious? THIS SEASON IS PEAK.”

Many fans think this season is the best since S1:

  • Pacing? Elite. No more Russia-detour-please-make-it-stop energy.
  • Mike FINALLY got a plot that isn’t “El, do you love me?”
  • Vecna feels scarier — targeting children again = horror back ON.
  • Character chemistry finally feels grown-up and real.
  • Will is carrying this season harder than he carried that painting in S4.
  • Holly has a storyline (and steals scenes — who expected THAT!?).
  • Ending of Episode 1 = CHILLS.
  • Episode 4 ending = goosebumps times 1000.

FANDOM-EXPLODING MOMENTS

 WILL MIMICKING VECNA

Probably the best scene so far. Internet artists are eating this up.

 MIKE: KING OF PLOT ARMOR

He has:

  • 2 supernatural love interests
  • 1 badass sister (also with 2 love interests)
  • A younger sister with literal cleric powers
  • Smartest friend group ever
  • Connection to the main villain
  • AND STILL does nothing but talk DnD and give pep talks.
Internet: “He’s the main character because the writers say so.”

HOLLY WHEELER — THE SECRET WEAPON??

Fans believe she’ll unlock major portal-tesseract wormhole cleric powers like she’s the A Wrinkle In Time chosen one.

RETURN OF EIGHT

People guessed it. People doubted it.
But when she appeared?
Twitter/X: “OMG I FORGOT ABOUT HER BUT ALSO ALWAYS KNEW.”

THEORY ZONE — RED ALERT

THE LOVE VS. HATE POWER THEORY

Stranger Things has consistently shown:

  • Psychic powers get stronger with emotion.
  • Brenner trained them with hate.
  • El wins only with love (remember S4: her mother flashback?).
  • Will might be manifesting powers now because he finally believes in himself.

 Vecna Harvesting Kids’ Powers?

Some fans say it’s like Doctor Sleep — he picks weak kids to mold, manipulate or drain.

Will = Sorcerer

Fans are convinced.
That scene with the demogorgons?
INSTANT LEGEND.

CHARACTER SPOTLIGHT: WHO WON THIS SEASON?

ROBIN – Internet’s MVP

Her jokes land.
Her chaos is delightful.
Her bond with Will? Pure serotonin.
Even critics admit: “Robin went from side character → ICON.”

WILL BYERS – The Emotional Core

He’s powerful, broken, brave, traumatised, and evolving.
Every scene he’s in? Heavy. Beautiful.

DUSTIN – Heart of the Party

Emulating Eddie. Coping with grief.
Shining in every moment.

NANCY & STEVE – Dependable, mature, still powerful

Their scenes feel grounded and real.

FUN FACTS & TRIVIA (INTERNET EDITION)

Did You Know?
The working title during early production wasn’t “Fall of 1987” — it was “Cobalt Nights.” Fans found this in leaked set documents.

Trivia:
Vecna’s new design reportedly took 6 hours of prosthetics daily.

Lol Fact:
According to a crew member, Millie Bobby Brown actually DID ask if Eleven could “just change outfits one time.” They said no — “continuity.”

Did You Know?
Max’s cave-set took 42 days to build and was inspired by NeverEnding Story aesthetics.

Nostalgia Bomb:
The quarantine scenes are heavily inspired by E.T., especially the hazmat and van sequences.

THE AGING CAST DEBATE

Everyone agrees:
If the Duffer Brothers didn’t take a full decade to film this series, the emotional arcs would have hit harder.

But then again… would Stranger Things even be Stranger Things without the chaos?

FINAL VERDICT: IS THIS SEASON WORTH THE HYPE?

YES.
Is it perfect? No.
Is it iconic? Absolutely yes.
Does it make you cringe and cheer at the same time? Peak Stranger Things energy.

This season might be messy, magical, heartbreaking, chaotic, and a little unpolished…
But guess what?
So was the 80s.

And THAT’S why this show works.
